this is why we need to keep young, decent-hitting 2nd basemen. every time it comes back in some form. remember brian bannister? who finished (a distant) 3rd in ROY voting last year? and kazmir. the list goes on. you can basically stick milledge on there. regardless of how gomez does i wont criticize that one. this just keeps happening and i dont understand it. if you have good prospects, stick with them and wait for them to get good. a 24 yr old has a decent chance of getting better, whereas a 34 yr old is definitely going to get worse. yes, you will lose more in the short term, but once you establish a culture of building up young talent, it sustains itself. i mean, im not a professional GM; but i've watched the mets mismanage for 7 1/4 seasons now. cmon, enough is enough. let the kids play.

ReplyDeleteI come from a different school of thought.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather trade away possibility for established value. Some things just haven't panned out correctly for us the past few year.
We've hung on to some things though...Wright and Reyes. Can't fault them there.
