The many theories of who can play first

Here is a short rundown of the managarie of theories I've heard about to play first base, since Carlos Delgado has sputtered so far this season:

1. Angel Pagan to first.

I'll admit it, this was of my own doing. It could work, right? He's young(ish), athletic, and hungry to play. Maybe not.

2. Moises Alou to first.

Ha. Ha. Funny joke.

3. Alou to left, Pagan to right, Ryan Church to first.

Plausible. But Church hasn't played first, either. Give it a shot, maybe? How much can it hurt?

4. Brady Clark to first.

His days are numbered with Alou coming back. Too late to even bother.

5. Mike Carp to first.

Sure, he's tearing up AA ball, and I'd like to see him get a shot, but it's not going to happen. Alou coming back bumps Clark off the roster, so if Carp comes up, who goes? No one, because it's not going to happen, barring injury.

Any others?

  1. as much as I wish the Mets COULD, moving a man to first base just hasn't worked well enough in recent history.

Just let Delgado's contract run out

  2. this is why we have to hope 'gado turns it around. because there's really no other option. and hating/booing the guy isn't going to help.

  3. cut alou, bring up carp or use clark. simple as that. or trade delgado. we need to trim the fat off this team. and i dont mean castro.

football update: im going in and setting up a physical for monday and filling out paperwork. hopefully theres no committment forms, because there actually is no possible way i would be able to play.

  4. We're "stuck" with Delgy whether we like it or not...

    And good luck, Doug.

  5. so putting Pagan at 1B isn't a bad idea, but putting a slow foot Alou at 1B is laughable?

  6. Yes. There a thing called athleticism that Alou doesn't have anymore. He should be in the AL hitting, only hitting. He doesn't belong on the field, but left is the best place for him. Would you really want Alou to be part of that many plays?

Pagan is young, athletic, and able. I'm not saying he'd be a gold glover, or even be good at all, but he's a better option than Alou, without a doubt.
