Twitter Poll: Do you regret buying a certain player’s jersey?

When the Mets traded for J.J. Putz last off-season, a lot of people hurried out to the store to purchase a new shirt for No. 22.

Not even a full year later, it’s likely that Putz is done as a member of the Mets.

So I asked my Twitter followers if they regret buying a certain player’s jersey.  Here are some responses…

PaulsRandomStuf said: I own a Mo Vaughn Mets t-shirt. Do I really have to explain the reason for the regret? ;-)

fallacyofromeJH said: Kaz matsui....for obvious reasons

IvanCTorres said: kaz matsui! bought it right before his first year with the Mets

PessimisticMet said: my roberto alomar jersey is looking real nice right about now.

BigVin57 said: i bought Roberto Alomar and Mo Vaughn shirts. waste of money

benbarbato said: I bought a Ryan Church T-Shirt last year. Loved Church, felt he never got the chance to be what he could've been.

ambilevous said: two words. Alay Soler.

BlueAndOrange said: YUP totally bought a Hidalgo shirt.. thought he was gonna be around longer than a day.

MaryL1973 said: Yes, Paul Lo Duca because he was not the person I thought.

That’s quite a “team” we could field from these jerseys.

Putz on the mound, Lo Duca behind the plate, Vaughn at first, Alomar at second, Matsui at shortstop, Hidalgo and Church in the OF.

Boy, this team has changed since 2006

I found this plaque while cleaning out my room today. I thought it was too good to pass up.

The X-ed out Mets (top row): Victor Diaz, Xavier Nady, Willie Randolph.
(center): Cliff Floyd, Paul Lo Duca.
(bottom row): Steve Trachsel, Tom Glavine

Why was Victor Diaz on this plaque? That's all I want to know.

Ex-Mets: Lo Duca to first

You know your season is in the tank when...

From the Washington Post:
At 36, for the first time in his career, Paul Lo Duca has become an everyday starting first baseman. All it took was the emergence of Jesús Flores at catcher, the wrist injury to starting first baseman Nick Johnson, the various maladies of backup first baseman Young, and the left calf strain of another first base option, Aaron Boone. As a result, Manager Manny Acta said Sunday that Lo Duca, at least for the short-term, "will get most of the at-bats at first base."
Yeah, Nationals, good luck with that.

A tale of two seasons

Last week I brought you "A Tale of Two Stadiums," this week, it's "A Tale of Two Seasons."

J.A. Happ has made two major league starts in his career, both against the New York Mets.

In 2007, the Mets pounded Happ for five runs in four innings. He surrendered three home runs to Carlos Beltran, Paul LoDuca and David Wright. Happ allowed seven hits, while striking out five and walking two. Jorge Sosa earned the win for the Mets, who upped their record to 46-33.

Beltran ended up going 4-5, hitting two home runs and picking up 10 total bases.

This time around, it was an entirely different story. Happ went 4 2-3 of an inning, allowing only three hits, striking out three and walking four. He surrendered only two runs, the only ones the Mets managed to put across.

On the flip side, Johan Santana pitched 8 innings, allowing only six hits and two runs. He took the loss as the Mets fell to 42-44. Beltran went 0-4 and struck out twice.

Two different teams, two different seasons, and two vastly different outcomes.

ARGH! :: Cubs 8 -- Mets 7

we gave up the runs early. tried to battle back, and fell just short.

Maddux is like the pitching version of chipper jones at shea. 14 wins in 30 starts at shea.

We will now operate in a six man rotation. Pedro will be returning on Friday to pitch against Atlanta.

Nice play by Lo Duca in the 8th to throw out a speedy Pierre.
Fun game...too bad we couldnt pull that one out.

Trades: The Heilman for Gil Meche rumor apparently is asolutely nothing. its a "non rumor."

Glavine v. Zambrano 7:10
trying to avoid a 3 game skid.

The rain for Maine falls mainly during Gary Cohen jokes...

wow...
Mets win 7-0, led by a surprise starter, Mr. John Maine.
He pitched a complete game, 4 hit shut-out. And pitched so well, apparently we dont need to trade.
He only needed 98 pitches to get it done.

Maine does have to buy steak dinners for Floyd, Beltran and Lo Duca for keeping the shutout intact in the 4th and 8th.
~Floyd went up and over the wall to bring back a possible Chris Burke homerun.
~Beltran made a fantastic throw that bounced off the pitchers mound (through Delgados legs) right to Lo Duca, who promptly tagged out Munson tagging from third.

oh yeah...and Valentin hit a Grand Slam in the second, Delgado hit a 2 run blast in the 5th, and also a sac fly in the third.

C-Del went 1-2, BB, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBI.
would the real carlos delgado please stand up? and stick around...

just a solid game ALLL around. hopefully this is the real John Maine as well. and this continues!

thank god for david wright.

comeback baby!

glavines win streak battles through, avoiding a loss for the third straight game.
Xavier Nady hit a two run shot, and made 2 solid plays in the field.
Lo Duca went 3 for 4 with an RBI.
But the game ball goes to David Wright for his 3 run, go ahead, eventual game winning home run in the bottom of the 8th.
Wagner gave up a solo shot, but still earned the save, as the mets earned a split with the marlins heading into the all-star break.

good luck to our all stars, and especially to david wright in the home run derby tommorrow night.

that is a great first half of the season...lets do it again.
