Luis Castillo is bad

I can't believe we (fans) and the Mets have three more years (plus this year) of this hobbled, slow footed, injury prone shell of a man he once was.

Luis Castillo, the worst signing of Omar Minaya's career? Looks like it.

No one in their right mind was going to pay Castillo anywhere near that much money, for anywhere near that much time. Minaya went over everyone's heads and signed him for a ridiculous sum for much longer than needed.

Four more years. I wonder how low his disapproval rating will be.

  1. Lol, I acutually was sorry to see Castillo go. He was a good player at the top of the lineup.

    I guess he regressed. :(

  2. That he did!

    And quickly. Very quickly.

  3. Funny, myself and a few co-workers have been emailing about Castillo and what we are in for over the next 3+ years. One of the worst signings ever!

As one co-worker said: This contract also meant the Mets had to drop Gotay because his chance to start could not really come until 2012. At last count, Gotay had two healthy knees. Even Jeff Keppinger, whom the Mets traded to the Royals to acquire Gotay, has one healthy knee.

  4. Hahaha!

Looking at Gotay's stats: .235 (12 hits in 51 AB) and 4 RBI.

Doesn't look like we're missing much there!

And I took a look at other 2B in our system...and it's AHern, who can't hit, Emmanuel Garcia, who can't hit, and Jonathan Malo, who...you guessed it, can't hit.

Ike David / Reese Havens...hurry it up.

  5. I wouldn't say that if I were you, lol. You don't want to spoil them.

That seems to be the number one concern with Minnesota management. We can't bring players up too fast, we might spoil them...

    Ugh.

  6. Haha yes. We do that with pitchers.

The right side of the infield is a freakin' mess right now.

  7. Exact opposite in Minnesota. The right side is locked up for years to come with Morneau and Casilla. It's third base that is the question.

  8. Is anyone else as surprised as I am that home-slice has three homeruns?

Anyway, the Mets have money. Could this have simply been a lure to get Santana? I mean, can't they simply buy him out now that we have what we were looking for (after this season)?

OK, Andrew, do some homework? Give us some young options for 2B?

  9. Are you talking to this Andrew? If so, I'd be happy to do some homework for my second favorite NL team.

  11. Valentin was ripping apart the FSL, but is only hitting .182 through ten games with the New Orleans Zephyrs. I don't know why he signed a minor league contract last year, the dude is 39 years old! Time to give it up, bud.

Abraham Nunez is also struggling mightily. He is only hitting .181/.306/.229 (looks like Nick Punto's numbers) through 24 games. He does have the only major league experience of the trio of second baseman you have at AAA. He (I'm assuming) pinch-hit twice without a hit.

I'm going to say that Argenis Reyes is your guy. Not only would it be sweet to have two Reyes' on your team, but he is good. He is batting .284/.352/.328 in the Pacific Coast League. He has been steadily working his way through the minors since 2003, when he was drafted. You could argue that since he only has 71 games in AAA he is not ready for the Bigs yet, and he probably isn't. I wouldn't make him your second baseman yet, but a platoon with Castillo might be good for Argenis Reyes. Maybe Castillo too.

There is also the possibility of a trade. You can go a million different directions from there, so I won't even begin to say as much as I want to.

I will say, though, that Raul Gonzalez should be brought up! He could platoon with Pagan or Church, whichever you prefer, and I think it would be a big spark to your offense.

But then again, what do I know? I'm across the country, lol. :D

    Hope that helped!

  12. Anyone think of better options for the Mets?

  13. told ya so. purely idiotic signing. our defense up the middle was plenty good enough, we shouldve started with gotay then moved to easley/marlon anderson.
